 Differences between filter media square feet Jan 02, 2011

This is the Pleatco PRB25 filter. Please be aware that the 25 in the model number stands for 25 square feet of filter material. Pleatco also makes similar filters with the same length and diameter, but they have 50 square feet of filter material (and have "50" in the model number).
I wasn't sure whether to purchase the 25 or the 50 but opted for the 25 because I didn't feel the need for the 25 additional square feet of filter material (and the filter media fabric is the same either way, about 3oz/yard). I've used 50 sq ft models in the past and found that the filter was more difficult to clean because there was so much filter fabric that the pleats were very tight together. What most often gets cleaned by my hot tub filter are pieces of grass, hair, dirt, and bird seed shells. Either the 25 or the 50 would catch this material. Perhaps it helps my tub's pump that there is less back pressure from the 25 filter, but it may not make much difference either way.
Pleatco makes a good filter and there are many companies who charge more for this same filter. The 25 is sometimes slightly less costly than the 50. After a while the filters start to get a bit grungy so I replace them about annually. If this filter's length and diameter fits your tub/spa/pool, then either the 25 or the 50 should work well for you.

It fits, it filters, what more is there to say? I got the numbers off the old filter and this one fits perfectly.
